Sri Bala
Today I drew a very interesting card, and it inspired me to share this reflection — perhaps it will resonate with someone. Just yesterday, during a women’s circle, we did a meditation to connect with our inner children, so maybe that’s why this card feels so relevant right now. And how beautiful it is that Sri Bala is often depicted sitting on lotuses — a symbol that has been weaving itself into my life in every possible way lately.
Sri Bala – The Daughter of God.
Everyone who grows up in the Christian world hears about the Son of God… but what about the Daughter of God? It turns out, in the Hindu tradition, there is such a being — the Divine Daughter.
Sri Bala is a form of the Goddess who chose to incarnate as a little girl in order to defeat a demon. This particular demon had been granted protections: he could not be defeated by a knight, a king, a woman, or anyone else on a long list of possibilities. But nowhere on that list was a young girl. So the Goddess came in the form of a child — and triumphed.
There is also another story: during a great war filled with demons, Sri Bala asked her mother, the great goddess Lalita, for permission to join the battle. Lalita hesitated — after all, Bala was just a child, and many mighty warriors were already fighting. But Bala insisted. Lalita gave her divine armor, blessed her, and allowed her to go. And in the end, Sri Bala — with her childlike clarity — easily defeated 30 demons. Through her eyes, the truth of the situation could be seen more clearly, even if no one would’ve believed her had she tried to explain it.
Sri Bala carries a message of deep faith — in your heart, in your intuition, in your inner child. Even if those around you dismiss your dreams as naïve or unrealistic, your inner girl holds a direct line to the Divine. She knows. And this pure energy is often the most direct path to your soul’s purpose.
[This part of the story is inspired by Alana Fairchild’s “Kali Oracle.”]
“A divine child with wisdom far beyond her years, an old soul with deep knowledge lives in the hearts of each of us.
She urges you to fully and unhesitatingly commit to your most passionate inspiration.
There is genius and wisdom in what your heart desires to do.
You have a much greater ability to achieve what you desire than the people around you may recognize.
Believe in yourself even when no one else does.
You are guided not by fantasy, but by an instinctive recognition of your higher purpose.
Outer validation will come later.
Your path is blessed, and you are destined for success.”
Prayer of Sri Bala
Sri Bala, Divine Daughter, primal divine instinct, my pure nature — I bow to you.
You carry within you the wisdom and desire for me to become and fulfill my most authentic self.
You are the fearless spiritual instinct within me that must be expressed for the benefit of all beings.
Nothing stands in my way as I move forward with clarity and confidence, led by the quiet spaces of my soul.
I am protected by the Divine Mother, blessed by her grace and her unwavering faith in me.
Your unmatched wisdom and unshakable inner knowing always lead me true.
May your spirit live forever in me.
Jai Ma Bala! Jai Ma! Jai Ma! Jai Ma!
