Triple Moon Symbol and Goddess

Triple Moon Symbol and Goddess

Have you seen this symbol in spiritual circles and wondered what it really means? Why is the triple moon so popular in women's gatherings and altars?

Take a few minutes to read on — and you'll discover the meaning behind the symbol, its power, and how you can connect with it more deeply.

Where does the triple moon symbol come from?

Often associated with Wiccan or Celtic traditions, the triple moon symbol has now become widely recognized in many modern spiritual paths. It represents the Feminine Triple Goddess — the archetype of the woman as Maiden, Mother, and Crone.

In many ways, this feminine trinity mirrors or balances the Holy Trinity in Christianity — offering a different view of sacred power: one that is embodied, intuitive, and deeply cyclic.

🌒 Waxing moon – The Maiden

The waxing moon — the phase between new moon and full moon — symbolizes the Maiden.

She represents youth, new beginnings, growth, exploration, and independence. This is the energy of a girl or young woman before stepping into motherhood — full of vision, curiosity, and becoming.

Energetically, the week of the waxing moon is a perfect time for:

  • Starting new projects
  • Setting intentions
  • Planting seeds (spiritually or literally)
  • Calling in clarity and expansion

🌕 Full moon – The Mother

The full moon represents the Mother archetype.

She is fertile, powerful, creative, sensual, abundant, and grounded. The full moon is a time when feminine energy is at its peak — making it a potent phase for almost any spiritual practice.

Use this time for:

  • Manifesting your visions
  • Nurturing ongoing projects
  • Rituals of fertility, empowerment, or celebration
  • Releasing what no longer serves you (especially just after the full moon moment)

🌘 Waning moon – The Crone

The waning moon phase — after the full moon and leading into the new moon — symbolizes the Crone, or the wise elder woman.

She holds maturity, deep wisdom, intuition, endings, and transformation. She teaches us about surrender, reflection, and death — not only physical death, but the many small endings that shape our lives.

This is a powerful time for:

  • Letting go
  • Honoring completions
  • Reflecting on lessons learned
  • Connecting with ancestral or inner wisdom

The Triple Goddess in You

The Triple Moon Goddess is three and one — Maiden, Mother, and Crone. She represents the full cycle of life, and the phases that every woman carries within her.

Even though we may spend years in one stage externally, we move through all three archetypes internally — again and again — with the rhythm of the moon and our menstrual cycles.

This means we are constantly given the opportunity to live many small lives within a lifetime — to be reborn again and again, and to know death not as an end, but as a transformation.

A personal story

I once connected with the Triple Goddess during a meditation. In my vision, I found myself walking in a forest, and three young women appeared. As I approached, their faces suddenly shifted into ancient, witch-like visages — as if testing me. I remained unshaken.

They then welcomed me and invited me into a ritual. We went to a meadow with a few other women, where they showed us how to connect our wombs with the energy of the moon. At the end, they told me:
“If you ever have the chance, bring this ritual into the physical world.”

I haven’t done it yet… but the memory and the invitation remain.

And who knows? Maybe the time is coming.
