Klip Dagga (Leonotis nepetifolia), also known as "Lion’s Ear", is a striking plant from the mint family (Lamiaceae), native to the high altitudes of the Andes Mountains.
These vivid orange petals are hand-picked by a Kichwa family in Ecuador. Harvesting is done with great care to avoid the sharp thorns around the flower base, ensuring only the best mature blooms are collected. The plants grow wild in mountain regions without the use of fertilizers or intensive agriculture.
The dried petals may release a subtle, naturally sweet scent when burned, reflecting the traditional reverence for this plant's calming energy. It has long held symbolic and cultural significance in Andean communities.
Country of origin: Ecuador
